By Catie Savage for W42ST – December 8, 2025 | W42ST, the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood magazine, interviewed Sandy for its West Side Story series.
There is a sense of care here that feels both genuine and deeply rooted.
The magazine introduces Sandy as a jewelry and garment designer who lives in Hell’s Kitchen, and credits her as the first African American woman to make her mark in the fine jewelry industry, opening doors for the designers who came after her. In the interview she tells her own New York story: born in Manhattan, raised in Harlem, then Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, before returning to Manhattan in 1971 to move her business into a light-manufacturing space.
